Did you know that 3% of the children in the world are affected by scoliosis? But we till don’t fully understand why it happens. A recent study has indicated that a disruption in the flow of cerebral spinal fluid (CSF) may cause idiopathic scoliosis in Zebrafish. So what? Curves in the Zebrafish could be restored by returning normal flow of CSF, and therefore may mean that this is possible in humans. How can physio help? The long answer is: There is Dura, which encases the brain and the spinal cord and all of the nerves, this is where the CSF lives. There are certain catching points through the spine that this Dura can get hung up, and through hands-on treatment we can release these trapped areas. By allowing this system to glide naturally it may help to reduce curve in the spine. So, Thank You Zebrafish!
