Are You Moving or Just Exercising? The Difference Matters

We often use “movement” and “exercise” interchangeably, but they’re not quite the same. Understanding the difference can change how your body feels, performs, and recovers.
Exercise is Structured, Movement is Life
Exercise usually has a goal: running 5K, lifting weights, or doing a Pilates class. Movement, on the other hand, includes everything you do throughout the day, walking to the car, reaching overhead, carrying groceries, or playing with your kids.
Both are important, but focusing only on exercise can leave gaps in how your body moves and functions.
Why Mindful Movement Matters
When we move with intention, paying attention to how our body feels and functions, we improve coordination, balance, and joint health. This helps prevent injury and builds resilience for all types of activity.
How to Add More Movement to Your Day
- Take movement breaks between long stretches of sitting.
- Try new activities that challenge your body in different ways (hello, Movement Club!).
- Tune into how your body feels during exercise, not just how hard you’re working.
At Move Authentically Physiotherapy, we believe that movement should feel empowering, not exhausting. It’s not about doing more, it’s about moving better.
👉 Join The Movement Club or book a one-on-one session to learn how to move with purpose and confidence.
